What is thyroid eye disease
Hello Friends, today our topic is Thyroid Eye Disease, Symptoms, Causes and Treatment so People suffering from thyroid may suffer from eye problems. What disease are many people battling with? You must have also heard about people suffering from thyroid that blood pressure increases due to thyroid. And thyroid disease also affects the eyes a lot. This disease is found more in women than in men.
Thyroid eye disease is a disease due to which the immune cells themselves attack the thyroid gland of the body. Due to this, thyroid hormone is secreted in excess or in less quantity than required.
This disease is mostly found in people in whom thyroid gland hormone is highly affected.
This disease causes weakening of the eyes because autoimmune attacks often target the eye muscles and the connective tissue within the eye socket. This is because these uses contain proteins that look similar to the thyroid gland’s immune system. Thyroid symptoms can range from mild to severe but may occur in only 10 – 20% of patients at risk of vision loss.
Diabetic eye disease-
People with diabetes have a problem with their eyes called diabetic macular edema.
Diabetes does not only occur in the eyes, it affects other parts of the body as well. Diabetes causes serious eye problems. Diabetes can also cause blindness. Diabetes is that if the eye problems are detected early then it can be cured, otherwise it can damage the whole body parts.
Most of the problems can be faced by those people whose eyes are more bad.
Those whose diabetes lasts for a long time and blood sugar is also not controlled, their effect falls on the whole eyes, due to which the eyes are not able to recover. Detecting this problem early fixes this problem.
Dry eye disease-
In dry eye disease, there is a feeling of moisture in the eyes. Due to this, there is a lot of tiredness in the eyes and there is redness. It also causes blurred vision, in some cases the cornea can also be damaged if it is not treated.
Dry and leggy patients often have a burning sensation in the eyes. The eyes are swollen and itchy. And intermittently there is severe pain. Blurred vision begins and the eyes remain red. Dry eye patients may have some or none of these symptoms.
Symptoms of Thyroid Eye Disease-
Thyroid eye disease is caused by an attack of the immune system. In this disease the eyes are swollen. You will not even be able to close your eyes completely and there will be burning pain in the eyes. When any light falls on your eyes, your eyes will burn.
- There may be pain in the eyes when looking up, down and from the side.
- Dry eyes.
- Burning in eyes.
- Pain and swelling in the eye and its surrounding tissues.
- Red and balding eyes.
- Sensitivity to light.
- Blurred vision.
In the more advanced stage, there is a decrease in the speed of the eyes. It is also difficult to bend the eyelids.
Types of eye diseases
Due to malnutrition, unbalanced diet and aging, the following diseases arise in the eyes such as-
As a person gets older, the capacity of the lens found in his eye decreases. The lens, which was previously capable of expanding and contracting as needed, turns into a solid and hard material.
In this condition, the normal round shape of the lens deteriorates and becomes somewhat crooked. The adjusting power of the lens is greatly reduced. From birth to puberty, the eyes are good, but gradually with increasing age, the lens becomes weak, able to see clearly from a certain distance and from a certain angle.
2. Hyperopia (hypermetropia)
In farsightedness, a person cannot see near objects clearly. Whereas he can see distant objects clearly. The human eye is considered to be emmetropic. When a slight defect of vision develops in the lens, the penny becomes weak in it. It is unable to focus the near object away from the distant focus because the accommodative ability of the eyeball, iris, aperture, and muscles to focus has been lost.
In this defect, it is difficult to see distant objects and nearby objects are clearly visible. As the size of the pupil of the eye increases in the muscles, the image is formed slightly forward instead of on the retina.
Under this defect of the eyes, the muscles become weak, due to which the person can see the near object and the distant object is not visible.
When the rays of light coming from distant objects pass through the lens through the aperture and form the image, then that image is formed in front of the retina, so it is outside the focus range and the object appears blurry.
If you can see the distance close enough, then it may be a cataract. Cataracts make it difficult to drive and also to see distant and near objects.
90 lakh to 12 million people are blind in both eyes, with 2,000,000 new cases of cataract are reported every year.
Modern technologies have made cataract operation very easy and effective, due to which blind people can also see things by getting their eyes treated.
Cataracts have a hazy or white appearance, due to which their ability to pass light rays from an object decreases through the lens, and instead of producing a clear and bright image on the retina, they form a blurred image. Sometimes the image is so blurry due to which nothing is even visible. Cataracts arise with aging, but injuries or wounds, toxic gasses can also cause cataracts.
Black cataract is also called glaucoma or black cataract. Black glaucoma does not show symptoms and does not cause any pain, so it is considered a major cause of blindness.
In black glaucoma, there is pressure on the nerve of the eye.
This is the main reason for the development of cataract in older people. This disease arises due to excessive increase in the concentration of aqueous fluids found in the eyeballs. When the eyeballs begin to assemble, their pressure causes destruction of the retina and its associated nerve cells, and if this is not controlled, a state of complete blindness occurs.
6. Night Blindness-
Deficiency of vitamin A causes night blindness, when the amount of vitamin inside the blood becomes very less than normal, then the image producing photos are greatly reduced and are not able to make an image of an object in low light, hence the night I don’t see anything. Objects are clearly visible even in bright light of day or even in bright light at night.
